A Letter from Jim Morrisroe
As was announced today, I have joined the Piston Cloud team as Chief Executive Officer. I’m thrilled to join the Piston Cloud founders, Joshua, Gretchen, and Christopher in the disruptive private cloud market that is transforming enterprise information technology for the better.
Joshua McKenty will be taking on the role of Chief Technology Officer, where his vision and thought leadership will continue to shape the company. With my focus on company-wide growth and his sharpened focus on our incredible software, Piston is surely the company to beat in enterprise private cloud.
A few notes about the journey that led me here:
Back in 1994 (the year Aerosmith’s “Amazing” came out) I worked at Cabletron Systems, an early Ethernet networking hardware manufacturer. In the following decade, my career in technology and communications sales took me through directorial positions at Lucent Technologies, Cereva Networks, and IBM, and vice presidential duties at Storigen Systems and Cemaphore Systems.
In 2005, I took a position as VP of Sales and Global Field Operations at Zimbra, an enterprise open source email and collaboration software company, growing revenue from $0 to the current very significant run rate. My successes contributed to the acquisition of Zimbra by Yahoo! in 2007 and the subsequent acquisition by VMware in 2010. I stayed on at VMware as the VP and General Manager of the Zimbra team through early 2012.
After repaying some time debt over the spring and summer to my amazing wife and children, I started a search to find great entrepreneurs and companies that could use my talents to help build a great company. Starting in August, the search took me through every nook and cranny of the Bay Area. I meet with dozens of companies and hundreds of entrepreneurs and technologists. I had the pleasure of meeting some incredible people with industry changing ideas and products. But nothing else I looked at measured up to the people, ideas and products at Piston. Now, I’m part of this team!
During the brief moments that I’m not driving the continued growth and development of the company, you can find me coaching little league or searching for a great Pinot (but not at the same time).
